File Splitter
File Splitter is a free Windows program that will split any file into pieces of any size and later combine the pieces to form the original file. This could prove useful in a number of situations:
Suppose you need to transfer a file from one stand-alone computer to another. A floppy disk is often the only possible means for transferring the file, but if the file is larger than 1.44 megabytes, it won't fit on a single floppy. Simply split the file onto floppy disks, and then copy the pieces from the floppy disks to the other computer and easily reconstruct the original file.
Many email systems place a limit on the size of an email message. What if you want to email someone a file that is larger than the maximum size? Split the file into pieces smaller than the limit and email the individual pieces.
There are many other possibilities for using The File Splitter. I'm sure you can think of a situation where The File Splitter would be helpful. |

File Splitter FAQ :
1. When I try to recreate a file, why do I get a KERNEL32.DLL: GetDiskFreeSpaceExA error?
This error occurs on the original version of Windows 95. You must use Windows 95B (OSR2) or later to recreate a file.
2. When I try to recreate a file that was split to floppy disks, I keep swapping disks and nothing seems to happen.
You must copy all of the files from the floppy disks to a temporary folder on the hard drive before running Create_filename.exe.
3. I have a large sound or video file that I want to break up into smaller files. Can The File Splitter do this?
No. The File Splitter is only designed to split a file and then put the pieces back together to form the original file. The pieces that it creates are not meant to be used.
4. I lost the Create_filename.exe program. Is there any other way to combine the pieces?
Yes. At a Command Prompt, type the following:
copy /b filename.1 + filename.2 + ... + filename.n filename
For example, if you split a file named myfile.doc into 3 pieces, you would type:
copy /b myfile.doc.1 + myfile.doc.2 + myfile.doc.3 myfile.doc
5. Are there command line parameters to perform a silent install of The File Splitter?
Yes, you can use the following command line parameters:
/SILENT, /VERYSILENT
Instructs Setup to be silent or very silent. When Setup is silent the wizard and the background window are not displayed but the installation progress window is. When a setup is very silent this installation progress window is not displayed. Everything else is normal, so for example, error messages during installation are displayed.
/DIR="x:\dirname"
Specifies the directory name to install to. A fully qualified pathname must be specified.
/GROUP="folder name"
Specifies the Start Menu folder name in which program icons will be created.
/NOICONS
Specifies that no program icons should be created.

- A .exe file is now produced to combine the pieces, instead of a batch file.
- The file to split can be dragged-and-dropped from Windows Explorer.
