This software is fully functional and can be used indefinitely. I have added some dummy records that can be deleted or changed to your own as examples.

What sort of hardware and software do I need to use for this program?
There are 3 compatible boards for the Timer software.
KT-5165A PC Printer Port Relay, Kit74 and KV 3590.
For pictures of the relay boards Kit74, KV 3590, printer cable and wiring diagrams go to the gallery.
You will need either 1 of the kits or you can make your own hardware if you have a little electrical knowledge. If you purchase a kit it will need to be put together, or you can buy them made up and tested. A power supply and also a printer cable is needed to operate your solenoids. Usually 24vac power supply for 24vac solenoids. This program will operate on Win95,98,2000,NT or XP. It is configured for the 3 parallel ports LPT1,2 AND 3. The download version is fully functional and can be used to test and operate your solenoids, relays etc, for as long as you like. The full version is exactly the same as the trial except for the form that pops up every 10 minutes. For more information check out the readme file in the C:/Timer/ directory after downloading.
Can I use this program with a PLC?
Yes buy connecting the printer cable to the inputs of a PLC, setting the type of output that you need in Help/About Timer Settings to either 5v for On or 5v for Off and then programming the PLC to your particular needs. PLC's are another type of hardware that can be used and are a cheap alternative if to be used for an industrial or commercial application. You need an electrical trade or background if going to use a PLC.
What is the difference between this software and other products?
Other Automation Companies use products that have the hardware side wrapped up so that you can only use their expensive hardware with their software. With our basic software the uses and hardware types are endless. Set your system up so that you can control your lights, irrigation or sprinklers from hundreds of kilometres away using a PC to PC link, or radio link using telemetry. Use Opto's (opto22), PLC's or kits. No need for expensive control panels when you can control directly from your computer in real time.
What if the power goes off?
By inserting the timer.exe command in your Start up Folder the program will automatically open the Timer program to exactly where it was before the power went off. All settings made before the interruption are kept and the program will resume normal operation. If using a computer where Scandisk requires the user to select options, the scandisk.ini file can be modified so that there is no user input during start up.
How can I alter the start or run times if they are not listed?
The start and run times can be changed after opening the output form, selecting the closest time and then changing 1 digit at a time. Be very careful not to change the format of the time (hh:mm:ss) or there will be a error. Another option is to open the timer.mdb file with Microsoft Access, select the correct table and then add or change time values using the correct format. You should make a backup copy of this file before altering the values of this file. Do not change the version of this file.
Can I use the trial version to operate relays and solenoids etc?
The trial version is fully functional and will operate whatever you want, whenever you want but only for 10 minute intervals. The full version is the same except the program will run indefinite. All registered users have the bonus of free version updates and access to ports LPT2 and LPT3 (ports 278 and 3bc) by two extra programs. With 3 printer cards, 24 outputs can be operated at by 3 different programs at the same time.
Can your software be used to trigger a school bell or alarm?
Yes, depends on the amount of switchings you need. Outputs 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 have 1 Switching time per day. Outputs 4 and 5 have 2 Switching times per day. Output 8 has 10 Switching times per day. Output 8 is the most suited for your purpose and it is easy to change the times if you need another schedule. If a switching is not needed, set the run time to 00:00:00 . For 2 seconds ON for the bell or alarm, set the run time to 00:00:02. All outputs can be paralleled for up to 19 switchings in a 24hr period.
I put in a pci card with 2 extra ports. How do I configure these ports?
1) Go to Start / Settings / Control Panel / System. Click the Device Manager tab.
2) Enter the properties then resources for the PCI parallel port.
3) Uncheck Use Automatic Settings and double-click the word Output in the Input/Output Range and enter the address range you have chosen for the PCI. For the Timer software enter 278 and 3bc for the 2 extra ports.
In some cases Windows will give an error message to the effect that "Windows cannot modify this resource." If you are unable to access the settings for changing system resources, reboot the system in Safe Mode to make changes to resource settings. (To enter Safe Mode, press the F8 key while the system is rebooting).
4) Click Ok and then Ok again and reboot Windows.
