FontLib 98 Features highlights include:
  • FontLib 98 was developed to help you find which font to use in certain circumstances. FontLib 98 allows you to assign your Windows fonts to sets, which can assist you in remembering how you use your favorite fonts .
FontLib 98 FAQ:
  • How do I register if AutoRegister gets the following error "runtime error 6, overrun"?
Runtime error 6 can be caused because your company name is longer than AutoRegister originally anticipated. AutoRegister has been fixed and can be downloaded (just AutoRegister) from the Downloads page. There is a separate fix for CDLib, FaceValue and FontLib.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Why doesn't my copy of Internet Explorer work after I install one of your products?
The AutoRegister Wizard has a file (shdocvw.dll) that is needed to view its own browser. This file works fine with Internet Explorer 4.0 and later, but may have problems with older versions of Internet Explorer (3.0, 3.02, etc.). It seems the file is not backward-compatible. If you have a version of Internet Explorer older than 4.0, you may have to reinstall it to revert to the original version of shdocvw.dll. For those running 4.0 or newer (later), this is not an issue. There is no impact to other browsers. The latest versions of FontLib, CDLib and FaceValue (available on 7/5/1998 ) have been changed to retain your existing version of shdocvw.dll. All versions of shdocvw.dll work fine with AutoRegister.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Where is the documentation?
Our products' documentation is not included in the trial version download, due to size. The online Help file contains most, if not all, of the information found in our written documentation. Those who wish to have a copy of our documentation may download it from our Downloads page. Each product has its own documentation download and installation zip file.
  • If you don't have Word 97 loaded on the machine running our product, you need to read the topic below.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why can't I read the documentation correctly?
Our products' documentation was created with Word 97. If you don't have Word 97, you won't be able to read it correctly. Microsoft has created a viewer application called Word Viewer 97 which will also read any documents created with Word 97. You can access the link to Microsoft's download of the viewer by going to our Downloads page and looking in our Miscellaneous section.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How can I tell what version I have?
All ITB Solutions products have a version number. It is broken down into three numbers, separated by periods. The splash screen that displays for only a few seconds when the application starts contains the first two portions (ex. version 2.0). The longer version number that includes the 'build' or 'compile' number can be found in the About box (Help|About). The example for it would look like 2.0.34
  • Major functionality enhancements increment the first number (and reset the others to zero), fixes and minor changes increment the middle number, and every build/compile increments the last number.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do I do if I get the error message "Run-time error 3447: The Jet VBA file (VBAJET.dll for 16-bit versions, or VBAJET32.dll for 32-bit versions) failed to initialize when called..."?
Our products were developed using Microsoft's Visual Basic 5.0 (VB5). Installation files like VBAJET32.DLL are included with VB5 and are copied to your PC when you install our product. If your PC already has newer versions of the installation files, our VB5 files will not replace them.
  • Your PC has a newer version of VBAJET32.DLL than the one supplied by our installation. It may have been installed by another product that was developed with the newer Visual Basic 6.0 (VB6). Therefore we did not install our copy of VBAJET32.DLL.
  • The concern is that the VB6 version of VBAJET32.DLL requires a file called EXPSRV.DLL. Some products developed with VB6 did not install EXPSRV.DLL when they installed VBAJET32.DLL. Products requiring VBAJET32.DLL will not run if the VB6 version is installed without EXPSRV.DLL.
  • You can determine what files you have by doing the following: Run the Find application by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Find... Type vbajet32.dll in the 'Named' box and C: in the 'Look in' box. Click Find Now and a list will appear with Vbajet32.dll in it. The folder it resides in is the System directory. To determine the version number, right-click on Vbajet32.dll and select Properties. Select the Version tab and the version number appears after the words 'File Version'. If the number starts with 6, it refers to the VB6 version. A 5 refers to VB5. You can attempt to find EXPSRV.DLL using the same process. Chances are you will not find it on your system.
  • If VBAJET32.DLL is version 6 and you do not have EXPSRV.DLL, our application won't work. To correct the situation, we have created a zip file called VBAJET.ZIP containing EXPSRV.DLL and the latest VBAJET32.DLL. You can download it from our Downloads page. Copy them into your system directory (previously determined during the Find process) and our application should work correctly. Your original VBAJET32.DLL will be overlayed with the newer one, which should now work for all applications developed with Visual Basic.

How do I only display certain fonts in other applications?
Create a set with the certain fonts as the only fonts in the set. Activate the set by clicking the Activate Selected Set toolbar icon. Every other application will now only display the selected fonts in their font lists.
  • Make sure that you run FontLib 98 after rebooting/crashing. Rebooting resets all of your PC's fonts to be available in applications. As soon as you run FontLib 98 again with a currently selected set, only the fonts in that set will be available.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why do other fonts still display in other applications (even after activating one set)?
FontLib only controls the availability of your PC's TrueType fonts. If your PC has non-TrueType fonts, they may be displayed. If your printer has installed fonts, they may also be displayed.
  • You can normally tell if a font is TrueType, look at the icon in front of the font in the font list of your application. If it is a TT, the font is TrueType. If it is a gray rectangle with a sheet of paper sticking out of it, the font is a printer resident font (not controlled by FontLib). The Office 2000 applications do not have icons in the font list anymore. But the type of font is displayed under the font list. Click on a font and it will tell you whether it is TrueType or some type of font.
  • Some applications allow the installing of the same font twice. So even if FontLib were to deactivate the font (the first instance), the font could display in another application (the second instance). Running FontLib 98 v2.6 or later will search and make sure there are no "duplicate" fonts on your PC.
  • Make sure that you run FontLib 98 after rebooting/crashing. Rebooting resets all of your PC's fonts to be available in applications. As soon as you run FontLib 98 again with a currently selected set, only the fonts in that set will be available. The same thing occurs whenever FontLib's LaunchPad is run. That's why it is located in Startup.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do I display all of my fonts in other applications?
Activate all of your sets by clicking on the Activate All Sets toolbar icon.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why doesn't the Print Preview look exactly like my printed output?
In version 2.0, the software module that performs the printing and print preview SHOULD work identically for both functions. Sometimes, however, the print preview will display differently than its printed counterpart.
  • In version 2.5, we replaced the module with one that handles printing much better but unfortunately didn't handle print preview very well. We removed the print preview functionality but hope to add it back in a future release of FontLib.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Why won't certain fonts print or print preview when they display correctly in the font display area?
In version 2.0, the software module that performs the printing and print preview SHOULD display the sample text in the correct font, as it does in the sample text display area. Certain picture fonts do not display correctly in the print functions. You may try to change the printer since it does have a bearing on the display portion of the print functions.
  • Version 2.5 has a much better print facility and should print fonts correctly. The print and print preview are related. While the print is better, the print preview got worse so we removed it. We hope to add it back into FontLib sometime in the future.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why are some fonts underlined and others have a line through them (strikethrough)?
Fonts have different characteristics which are expressed by underlining and strikethrough. To learn about the specific characteristics, display the Legends window by right clicking on a font and selecting Legend.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why can't I see the Register FontLib menu item anymore?
Once your copy of FontLib has been registered, the menu item no longer appears.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the impact of reinstalling FontLib 98?
FontLib is designed to be used a maximum of 10 times during the free trial. Reinstalling a trial version of FontLib on top of the existing trial copy will not hurt FontLib, but your trial uses will not be reset to 10.
  • Reinstallation should always be performed on top of the existing copy of FontLib. The latest version of FontLib has a smarter installation. It will recognize that you have FontLib already installed, it will save your data in a temporarily location, uninstall the original copy of FontLib, install the new copy and put your data back in its original location. So if you have a registered copy on your system and install a newer trial version on top of it, your new copy is automatically registered with no loss of data.
  • If you attempt to reinstall FontLib after uninstalling a previous copy, the installation still recognizes that a copy was installed and then removed. If that's the case, installing a trial copy again will forfeit your trial uses since we can't determine how many uses were left. If you had a registered copy and installed a newer trial version, enter your Registration Key into the AutoRegister Wizard and your new copy will become registered. If you can't remember your Registration Key, email us at support@itbsolutions.com and we'll send you back your key (we have all Registration Keys on file).
  • -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why can't I use double quotes (") when naming new fonts or sets?
Software can sometimes get confused by special characters. FontLib 98 would have serious problems if names contained double quotes. The use of single quotes (') is preferred and is not a problem for FontLib.
  • -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why can't I preview fonts in certain folders?
There are two instances when you may not be able to preview fonts. The first is due to an error in some copies of version 2.5 (runtime error '5'). There is a fix for it on our Downloads page.
  • The second reason is a problem that occurs only in Windows NT. If you are running Windows NT and are previewing fonts from another machine, folders that don't follow the old DOS naming standard (eight characters or less, with no spaces in the name) are not recognized. All three circumstances must be true in order to bypass folders with fonts; every other situation recognizes the fonts (.TTF files) correctly.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why can't I print any reports?
The reporting portion of FontLib had problems in the initial release of version 2.5. The latest version of FontLib has corrected these issues. Get it from our Downloads page.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why can't I display certain fonts?
Certain fonts were not being handled correctly in FontLib. If you attempted to display one of these fonts individually, or in a set or using All Fonts, runtime error '5' occured. There is a fix for it on our Downloads page. Once you've applied the fix, refresh your fonts (File|Refresh Fonts) and all of your fonts will be available for display. Or just download the latest version of FontLib which also contains the fix.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why doesn't my v2.0 Registration Key work in v2.5 or later?
The AutoRegister Wizard has been changed from version 2.0 to version 2.5. The length of the Registration Key is now 8 characters now; it previously was 13 characters. Installing v2.5 (or later) on top of v2.0 converted your Registration Key from 13 to 8. If you don't know your new Registration Key and need it to register version 2.5 or later, contact us at support@itbsolutions.com and we'll send you your new key.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why doesn't my Registration Key work in v2.6.4?
A valid registration key may not be accepted by v2.6.4 if you are located outside of the United States. The problem has been fixed in v2.6.5.
  • You may either download v2.6.5 or using v2.6.4, follow the instructions for the availableworkaround
  • 1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel. 2. Double-click Regional Settings. Keep track of the value on the General tab. 3. Change the value to English (United States). 4. Reboot. 5. Run FontLib and register it using the registration key provided. Registration should be successful. 6. Repeat steps 1 and 2 but change the setting back to its original value. 7. Reboot.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why am I getting error 713 or other print issues with v2.8?
Changing FontLib to work correctly with Windows 2000 and Windows ME required a new version of our reporting module. The new module used drivers with names different than previous versions. FontLib v2.8 didn't change the driver names which caused the print problems. Those with previous versions of FontLib probably wouldn't have a problem with version 2.8. But new users have reported error 713 and other print issues with version 2.8.
  • Version 2.9 has the new (larger) print drivers and has fixed the print issues.
  • You can download version 2.9 (or later) from our Downloads page. It can be installed on top of the existing version of FontLib without incident.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • What is the impact of reinstalling CDLib 2?
CDLib 2's installation program is designed to expect previous versions of CDLib 97 or CDLib 2. If installed with CDLib 97 on your PC, a new folder is created and the CDLib 97 folder and data are left untouched. CDLib 97's data is converted and added to the new folder so proper evaluation can take place in CDLib 2 (using CDLib 97 data). When you're ready to purchase CDLib 2, uninstall CDLib 97 manually.
  • If installing CDLib 2 with an earlier version of CDLib 2 already installed, the data is saved and available after the install. The installation program will automatically install CDLib in the same folder as the previous installation and use its name/company information. If either the new or existing version is registered, the new installation will be registered.
  • When both are trial versions: If installing CDLib 2 on top of the same version (v2.00, v2.01, v2.02, etc.), the trial uses will remain the same. If installing a newer version, the trial uses will be reset to 10. If you uninstalled the original version and reinstalled the same version, CDLib doesn't know how many uses were left so it resets the uses to 0 (so you can't just reinstall after 10 uses).
  • You will have to purchase CDLib in order to continue using it after your 10 uses have expired.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why do I have problems when I click on CDDB Link or CDDB Music Browser?
CDLib needs the Internet to connect to CDDB and access its CD information and Music Browser. If you don't have Internet connectivity set up on your PC, you will need to add it in order to use CDDB correctly.
  • You may have Internet connectivity but still don't connect automatically when attempting CDDB Link or Music Browser. CDLib is designed to use your default Internet connection if the Internet is not already connected. The best test for your default connection is your Internet browser (ex. Microsoft Internet Explorer). If you can double-click on your browser to start up your Internet connection, CDLib should use the same information to start up. If you use a regular phone line, you may want to change the browser parameters to use your Dial Up connection to always dial the default connection or dial whenever a network connection is not present. A value of 'Never dial the Internet' will keep CDLib from connecting to the Internet automatically.
  • If none of the above solutions work for you, connect to the Internet manually prior to accessing CDDB services.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't like the CD information returned from CDDB Link. What can I do about it?
There are instances when the information retrieved by CDDB Link is not as accurate as you'd like. In version 2.00 and 2.01 your only solution was to access the Edit CD window and make your changes. CDLib version 2.02 allows you to update the CD title on the CDDB Link window. It also allows you to change the artist or music style with an existing value. Click the Update button when you are finished changing the CD information. If you want your changes to be made to CDDB's database as well, you can select CDDB View/Submit from the CDDB Link menu and click it. A screen with all of the CDDB information is displayed. You can edit the existing information and send it back to CDDB. Your changes are automatically made to CDLib so you don't have to do double work. CDDB will review your changes, and if accepted, should appear after 24 hours.
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What can I do if I already added my CD information manually (CD title, artist and music style) and just want to get the track/song title information from CDDB Link?
Many individuals have added the CD title, artist and music styles manually to CDLib. But they didn't add the track/song title information since it was optional and labor-intensive. CDLib 2 has a checkbox called 'Add tracks only from CDDB Link' on the Edit Properties window. Placing a checkmark in it bypasses overlaying your existing CD title, artist and music style information but will automatically fill in the track titles. CDLib 97 customers who have updated to CDLib 2 should find this feature very helpful
  • The process mentioned above only works if you have an existing CD title, artist and music style. If not, CDDB Link will perform normally and post its own values for title, artist and style.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I get the error "Access Track: 35600 Index out of bounds" when I switch from the CD Player window. How can I get rid of this error?
Version 2.02 added the ability to listen to music when not on the CD Player window. The Remote Player was included to control the music in those circumstances. However, if you unload the Remote Player, start playing music on the CD Player window and then switch to another window you may get the "Access Track: 35600" error.
  • There are two ways around this. The first solution is to reload the Remote Player. The error doesn't occur if the Remote Player is available. To reload, go to the Edit Properties window and place a checkmark in 'Use Remote Player'. You could also stop playing the CD before switching windows.
  • The second method is to download the v2.02 fix that takes care of the error so it doesn't appear anymore. It is located on the Downloads page.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am getting errors in Windows Explorer or LoadWC after installing CDLib 2. How can I get rid of them?
CDLib versions 2.01 through 2.03 installed two files (shlwapi.dll and urlmon.dll) that were supposed to help with Print and Print Preview. We now know that these files are part of Internet Explorer 5 (IE5) and not required for printing as the printing vendor advised us. The files are incompatible with browsers older than IE5 such as Internet Explorer 4 (IE4). Customers running IE5 should not experience any problems since the files are compatible. Those running IE4 should notice problems, the two main issues being a LoadWC error or a Windows Explorer error. Both errors can cause you to reboot your system and they don't go away.
  • Here are three solutions to eliminate the incompatible files.
  • 1.) Install IE5 on top of IE4. The files are now compatible and problems are gone.
  • 2.) Uninstall IE4 and reinstall it. The incompatible files are removed by the uninstall. Reinstalling IE4 gives you back your browser and problems are gone. This may not be possible for those running Windows 98 since Microsoft incorporated Internet Explorer 4 into the operating system and didn't provide a mechanism to uninstall IE4.
  • 3.) If you can't uninstall IE4 (eg. it was part of Windows 98 and can't be uninstalled), you can download a fix called cd2ie4.zip. It contains an installation that overlays the incompatible IE5 with their IE4 counterparts. If the fix doesn't eliminate the problem, you may have to install IE5 on top of IE4.
  • Remember - downloading the latest version of CDLib will NOT remove incompatible IE5 files, you must use one of the three solutions above.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't display the Magazine Assignment window or the Custom Playlist window. How can I fix this?
Windows 2000 and XP have a problem with the 'Always on Top' functionality of the Magazine Assignment window and the Custom Playlist window. We have a created a fix if you are currently running v2.04 of CDLib. The fix will only update your cdlib.exe so you must be running v2.04 for this fix to work correctly. The fix and the v2.04 installation are available on our Downloads page.
