- What versions of PowerPoint does Speech-Over Studio support?
Speech-Over Studio runs in PowerPoint XP or newer, including
PowerPoint 2003. Speech-Over Studio runs as an add-in to PowerPoint
(in Office XP) running under Windows XP and appears in the PowerPoint
menu bar.
- How do I get started with Speech-Over Studio?
The Speech-Over Studio help file contains a Hello World tutorial
which lets you create a presentation that says 'Hello World"
in just a few minutes. You can also download a talking tutorial
presentation on the Try & Buy menu in which Paul explains the
basics. After that, the basic commands are simple and intuitive
and the learning curve is short.
- Where do I get computer voices?
You install computer voices like any other software product.
Speech-Over Studio works best with the SAPI-standard high-quality
voices available from vendors. The Speech-Over Studio trial
is bundled with trial versions of NeoSpeech Paul and Kate. Additional
quality voices can be purchased on this site; see Premium Voices.
- Can other people hear the narrations without buying Speech-Over
Studio?
Yes, the narrations use standard PowerPoint features and can
be heard by anyone who has PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer.
- Can I run the presentation on the web and hear the narration?
You can convert the presentation into Flash or into a Windows
Media Audio/Visual (.wmv) File that streams on the web using,
for example, TechSmith® Camtasia, and you will hear the
narration (for an example, see the web demo on the site). In
that case you don't need PowerPoint, only your browser. Contact
support for more details.
You can also put the PowerPoint presentation on the web but
it needs to be downloaded to hear the narrations.
- How does Speech-Over Studio create narrations without
recording them?
Narrations are generated from text input by text-to-speech
synthesis using a SAPI speech engine. Click to read more about

- Does Speech-Over Studio use Microsoft Agent Technology?
No, products that use Microsoft Agent Technology, for example
Vox ProxyT, also use text-based speech but there the speech
is associated with cartoon characters that appear independently
on the PowerPoint screen. Speech-Over Studio associates text-based
speech directly with the PowerPoint screen objects.
- How do I enter the text for each screen object?
You just select the screen object, hit the Add or Edit button
and the Speech Editor dialog opens. Enter text by either typing
it in, or you can dictate the text into a microphone and Speech-Over
Studio's voice recognition will enter the text on the dialog
where you can edit it if you wish.
- Can I synchronize the narration with objects on the PowerPoint
screen?
Yes, the narration is automatically synchronized with the PowerPoint
screen object for which you entered the text.
- When the screen object is animated you hear the narration
for that object. How do I install Speech-Over Studio?
Installing Speech-Over Studio is easy: simply double-click the
downloaded .exe file. When you purchase the product you enter
the registration code during installation, making sure your
Internet connection is open.
